Five distinct ecosystems in nine days, working down from the forest on Mount Kenya through the Rift Valley lakes to the Mara. The first night is spent at a tree lodge above a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which reverses the usual arrangement: you sit still and the animals come to you.
Ol Pejeta and Sweetwaters follow, one of the few places in Kenya where night game drives are permitted. Then Lake Nakuru for black and white rhino, and Lake Naivasha for Hell’s Gate and an optional boat trip among the hippo and the four hundred-odd bird species on the lake. The safari closes with three nights in the Maasai Mara and two complete days in the reserve, which in ecological terms is simply the northern end of the Serengeti. This is a private departure, and park entrance fees, accommodation, all meals on safari, drinking water and transfers are included.
