Amboseli is known the world over as the home of the big jumbos, and this short private safari is built entirely around them. The park’s permanent swamps, fed by meltwater from Kilimanjaro, draw some of the largest and most studied elephant herds in Africa into open country where they can be watched at close range for hours.
A full day of game drives with picnic lunch boxes gives you time to explore the swamp areas properly, alongside plains game, antelope and prolific birdlife. On a clear morning, usually just after dawn, Mount Kilimanjaro emerges above the cloud behind the herds, which is the photograph everyone comes here for.
