Overview

About this tour

Carnivore in Langata is the restaurant everyone tells you about, and it has twice made the list of the world’s fifty best. Meat roasts on Maasai swords over a charcoal pit in the middle of the dining room, and waiters work the tables carving it straight onto your plate. It keeps coming until you lower the paper flag on your table, which is the only way to make it stop.

The set price covers beef, lamb, pork, chicken and a rotating cast of less usual cuts, served with a spread of sauces and side dishes. There is a full vegetarian menu, and it is considerably better than the name of the place would lead you to expect. Transfers from your hotel and back are included, and this slots neatly onto the end of any Nairobi day trip.

Day by day

Detailed itinerary

Your driver collects you from your Nairobi hotel in the early evening for the short drive out to Carnivore in Langata.

Dinner comes off the central charcoal pit, carved at your table from the Maasai swords it was roasted on: beef, lamb, pork, chicken, sausages and a rotating list of specialities, alongside sauces, salads, vegetables and sides, then dessert and coffee. Service continues until you lower the flag. A full vegetarian menu is available on request.

Your driver returns you to your Nairobi hotel after dinner.
